My name is Sergio. I was born in 1990 in Madrid (Spain). I had a very difficult childhood. Due some issues of them days, my parents passed away when a was 5 and 6 years old so my grandmother took care of me when I wasn't 7 years old and she raised me in a humble and multicultural town of Madrid. Thats why as an Artist is Sergio de la Flora, Flora is my grandmother and without her I wouldn't be here today. In 2004, The scene of hip-hop and art lead me to start doing graffiti as my creative outlet. In 2013 I moved to London where I lived for the next 4 years of my life. There in London, In late 2016, is where I picked up a brush for the first time of my life. I always had the needed of express myself, to express somehow what I have inside my mine and something to give me a better balance in my life. And London was the perfect place to do this as it is a lonely and cloudy city. I had never studied art before so I started trying different technics and materials for a few months of experimenting until i found Oil. In 2018 in moved to Miami following my dream of being one of the greatest Artist of the world. When I arrived to Miami I went straight away to Homestead where the only friend i had and only person I knew rent me a room. I am living there in a room with my easel and sleeping in a airbed but very focus painting everyday around 8 to 12 hours. I had to show the world what I was doing so I started doing live painting and showing my artworks in Wynwood market. As I knew nobody that was the only way I had to show my art. People started liking my work and inviting me to others events, shows, etc. I exhibited in Art Basel where I made a lot of contacts. Since then I’ve participated in art contest, collective and individual exhibitions in other galleries and museum, etc. In March 2019 I moved to Barcelona to study for first time in an Art Academy to improve my technic and my vision as an artist.
In my very first works you can find a very deep feeling of expression through surrealism. I always used to paint human being in grey colours as my message has always being kind of the same. Later on I started painting more "realistic" faces but never losing the touch of surrealism. I am mainly inspired by my life and the life of others. I find inspiration in the different cultures of the world and how we've built our societies with all its components..education, politics, relationships, etc. where every element is linked. I also express myself, my deepest feelings through other faces, showing the world that doesn't matter what your colour of the skin is or where you was born. The idea that we, human beings are all equal and also, sculptures, art, creations and a masterpiece of a more divine artist. My technic of preference is oil. I my work doesn't reflect realistic details but instead, I only insinuate them. My method is defined by the ilusion of making the works look realistic if viewed from distance. It is a representation of who we are and the role we play in today's world. From far, we look great, having glorious lives; but if we look closer, not everything looks as it seem.
well, I have a very strong and important advice for young artist. They should always fight for their dream it doesn't matter what because we only live onces and there is nothing better in life that spend our time doing what we love. It is not an easy way but we all have to be patience and constant. have a open mind, observe and try different things an technics. and the last but not the less important is that never be affraid of falling or people opinions because it is unavoidable. Falling makes you stronger and people opinion is like the rain, It is just happen, nobody is safe about it but we have to be very conscious about it. I think all of these things can be applied to every person, it doesn't matter the profession. It is just mindset.
