MATTEO DE CAMINADA is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, and activist. Born in 2001 in Bolzano, Italy, and raised in a small provincial context, he realized early on that he needed to leave in order to become himself. He lost his father as a teenager, and with his mother's support, left Italy right after his high school diploma to move to London, seeking a more queer, open-minded, and culturally thriving environment. He later relocated to Vienna, where he studied Architecture at the Technical University of Vienna. Throughout his studies, he continued developing his artistic practice, which remained his primary interest. Afterwards, he took a foundation year in Fine Arts at the Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar, Germany, as part of the Grundlehre program, drawn by the university's long legacy of multidisciplinary work across art, architecture, and design, which helped him clarify the direction of his practice. During this period, he lived in Leipzig, immersing himself in the city's vibrant art scene. After a year there, he returned to Vienna to study Transdisciplinary Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Die Angewandte). His formation has been shaped by a life lived across multiple European contexts. Deeply embedded in communities across Europe, De Caminada occupies a distinctive position as both insider and cultural translator, an activist and speaker who moves between lived experience and public platform, bringing the realities of subcultural scenes into broader artistic and political conversation.
