MATTEO DE CAMINADA (b. 2001, Italy) is an interdisciplinary artist working across sculpture, installation, and media-based practices. His work operates at the intersection of art, design, and socio-political critique, engaging with themes of identity, power, and the evolving structures of contemporary ideology.
Raised in a conservative provincial context, De Caminada left Italy at 18, living through cities such as London, Vienna, Berlin and Leipzig. These shifts, both geographical and cultural, continue to inform his practice, which is grounded in lived experience and the search for more open and inclusive environments.
He graduated in architecture in Vienna in 2025, later expanding his artistic research through Fine Arts studies with a focus on material processes, particularly metalwork. He is currently based between Vienna and other European contexts, where he continues his studies in TransArts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Die Angewandte).
Deeply rooted in personal and collective experience, De Caminada’s work draws from queer identity, trauma, and social observation. His practice challenges entrenched norms and confronts the persistence and transformation of bigotry in contemporary society. Through a multidisciplinary approach, he positions art as both a critical tool and a space for resistance and systemic change.
