Inês de Almeida e Paiva’s work with linocut explores minimalist yet bold shapes, with a strong geometric structure and an emphasis on contrast and precision, driven by her background in architecture.
Her connection with printmaking has been one of exploration and discovery. Following a period of work in London, and with an urge to create at a faster pace, Inês has been developing a strong identity and style that allow her to combine her passion for art and architecture in a single project - fresca studio. Inês approaches her handmade prints by finding inspiration in shapes of design, nature and architecture. Working in series, she is able to explore each theme even deeper. Dualities of stillness and movement, light and shadow, past and future are highlighted through a monochrome look and the use of negative space. All the works are part of limited editions, handmade and individually inked and pressed by a single pair of hands.
Inês holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Lisbon School of Architecture (2018), taking part in two exchange programs - she spent one term at Dalhousie University in Canada and almost a year developing her thesis at The University of Tokyo in Japan.
