Bio
Affagard began his artistic journey at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, Belgium, where he developed a deep appreciation for contemporary figurative art.
His artistic and digital career spanned several decades, during which he taught multimedia and digital art at the University of Paris VIII, Paris XIII and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Chalon-sur-Saône in France. This long experience has enriched his perspective and fueled his passion for integrating technology into traditional art forms. Especially, from 1997 to 2013, he created artistic and digital museum pieces for the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, the national museum of photography.
In 2018, a personal conviction invited him to give up digital technology to devote himself full-time to traditional painting and drawing from his studio located by the sea in Quiberon (South Brittany, France). The serene environment of the seaside and the mild climate are a source of energy for his work.
His artistic journey has led him to exhibit mainly in Paris, but his works have also reached international audiences in New York and Tokyo.
Art purpose
« — I practice live modeling at the École des Beaux Arts de Lorient where I am coached as part of an individual artistic research workshop.
My subject is the human form as the heart of relationships between intelligence, emotion and the body. Everything relates me to the human. Everything that is, is subject to the human trace, the trace of our gaze. The perspective of the gaze is the relationship of the individual to the body and the world, the gaze is the world.
The nude is a recurrence of my work. I paint our naked bodies because they are the last weapon we have left, the only barrier to our integrity when everything has been taken from us.
My art is "figurative" in essence and contemporary in its intention. I am excited for future opportunities to showcase my art globally and connect with a diverse audience. »
