Fiona Davhana (b. 1996-) is a multidisciplinary artist based in New
Doornfontein, Johannesburg Central. Davhana practices visual art in the
mediums of photography, mixed media, and writes texts that support her work.
Davhana has taken part of a couple exhibitions with the Through the Lens
Collective-The Portrait Show (2020), Everyday a Woman (2020). She was
featured as the ‘Odd Artist of The Month’ in
Odd Magazine in June 2020, she attended and completed a linocut & printing
workshop at the Benrose Studios with The Arts Company Soweto in June 2020
and was featured in UK based magazine ‘Heavy Iridescent’ in November 2020.
In 2021, she was listed as a Design Indaba emerging creative where she took
part of online workshops as well as had her work featured on their social media
platforms and website. In that same year, Davhana also completed a course
called ‘Seeing Through Photographs’ with MoMa and NEMISA.
Davhana has facilitated a Last Thursday Talk for the Dior Photography and
Visual Arts Award for Young Talents 2022 at the Market Photo Workshop.
Davhana was shortlisted as a Top 12 finalist for the Latitudes x ANNA Award
and participated in their online show “Future Art Histories” which featured 60
women identifying artists from across Africa. In 2022, Davhana acquired a
qualification in Advanced Photography at the Market Photo Workshop and took
part of the ‘Unknown Known” year-end student showcase which she curated
after having done her internship at the Origin Art Gallery at Keyes Art Mile.
Davhana took part of the Mapping Memory exhibition held by Liberty2degrees
in Sandton City which will ran until January 2023. Davhana was a participant in
the ‘Woza Sisi’ exhibition which saw fruition to a few interviews on television,
and radio, an artist book publication, an exhibition, and a guest lecture at the
University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture.
In April 2023, Davhana joined the Spier Arts Trust’s Creative Block programme
which she takes part in to date. Davhana is currently working as a Long
Courses Assistant at the Market Photo Workshop and is also a part of the
Market Theatre Foundation social committee.
As of March 6th, 2025, Davhana has joined the Black Women Photograph
Committee as an official member. Davhana’s took part of the Art Meets
Fashion show at BoConcepts in Krammervile, Sandton from May 9th until
July 9th. Davhana was selected for a Face-to Face portfolio review session
with German based contemporary photography organisation Der Grief
with curator Jo. Trujillo Argüelles on July 2nd and given an artsist feature
on their Instagram page as well as their website on July 16th. Davhana
curated the Moved: Borders, Bodies and Belonging exhibition which was
in collaboration with the Market Photo Workshop and the University of
Pretoria. The exhibition was held at the University of Pretoria’s Fine Art
2-1 Gallery. The exhibition saw fruition to media coverage as well as
news features. She then curated an exhibition for the 2nd Black Women in
Photography Conference organised by the Market Photo Workshop,
Muholi Art Institute and the Ruth Motau Mentorship which was held at
the Market Photo Workshop from August 21st-August 23rd. Davhana was
selected as a Top 5 finalist for the 2025 Cassirer Welz Award where her
work was showcased at Strauss. & Co in Houghton, South Africa.
