In societal terms I am a chartered accountant but I habitually switch my spreadsheets for paintbrushes and fuse these two interests to create art. The left brain/right brain dichotomy would suggest that art and mathematics are worlds apart. I feel however there is a natural synergy between the two and it’s this relationship that I explore through my abstract expressionist style works.
I achieved grade A at both GCSE and A-Level Art & Design before switching my academic attention to becoming a chartered accountant.
Since becoming a chartered accountant, I have undertaken various art focused professional development courses at Sotheby’s and Christies focusing on art law and taxation.
Needless to say my art world experience to date has been centred around being an accountant and any experience around art work creation has been largely recreational, with a few exceptions:
In my free time I co-ordinated and organise a community art project which allowed residents to decorate the walls of a basketball court in their housing estate (in Thamesmead, London). The Metropolitan Police saw value in the project and agreed to fund it. This made the local newspaper and is still there to this date.
I have also done a number of live performances at Brighton Fringe where I draw my patterns to cover a large wall in a bar throughout the course of an evening.
I am applying because I have prioritised my academic accounting studies for over 7 years but I’m now ready for my colourful yet mathematics fuelled art to take centre stage and show it to as many people as I can.
