I went to an arts school when I was a teenager and was determined to continue to study arts (restoration or graphic design) at university. Instead, I opted for my other longing to help other people and studied medicine.... and languages besides medicine, because I love languages and communicating with people from different countries and walks of life. So, during and after my studies I have been to a few summer academies (Salzburg, Geras - both in Austria) and arts courses and have done some drawing, painting (acrylics, water color, oil) when time allowed. And I also did some woodcarving courses. The movement of the hand cutting the wood, the force and pressure and at the same time caution needed to do it is somehow very soothing to me. It relieves me from stress. I love the smell of the wood. Nowadays, if I have time besides my job, I do mostly woodcarving and sometimes design objects like lamps (or build furniture like loft beds). But in reality, I only manage to do around three nice pieces a year.
