Barbara Crimella
Sculptor, painter, performer, art curator and costume designer, born in Milan 1973, where I currently work and live.My research focuses on the creation of sculptures and installations capable of creating a sensation of temporal suspension, through which we can connect with our interiority and the landscape that surrounds us, both natural and urban. It is the place itself that tells us and asks, while we ourselves feel the strong need to listen to each other by entering into a relationship with ourselves. Thanks to a synthesis between the natural elements, the place with its historical, social and economic characteristics and ourselves with our tensions and longings; shapes, volumes, voids and shadows will be composed obtaining an order established by desire. From here the fold project is born, which I define as "the folds of the soul". The different forms of my sculptures arise from the "Folds of the soul", shapes capable of describing an inner journey which, thanks to the silence of nature which gives us suspension and timelessness, given by its beauty and perfection, allows us to hear the noise caused by the tangle of memories in the act of "materialising".The "folds of soul" can be described as a form capable of synthesizing our psychological layers through a single volume and becoming an element of exaltation of the landscape both within ourselves and outside, creating a sort of dialogue, a bridge-landscape in which get lost in its facets.
I have created sculptures, site specific interventions and installations in Miyazu, Wakayama and Biwako in Japan, Bilbao, Dakar, Bihar in India and in Italy, lastly inaugurated a triptych of sculptures "The place of Soul and Wind" homage to the Ora del Lago wind which crosses Vallecamonica, the foundation stone of the LoCar project, conceived by me together with Daniela Gambolò, president of the Borgo degli Artisti association, a sculpture park along the path of Charlemagne which goes from Bergamo to Carisolo in Trentino open to the public capable of generating ideas .
