Evelyne Coutas lives and works in Paris.
She studied architecture and sculpture at lʼÉcole nationale des Beaux- Arts de Paris, then at the University (Art section)
In 1983, Coutas introduced photography into her work, using light and the photosensitive properties of the silver paper to question the representation of reality within photography.
Her first photographic work, “La chambre obscure” (“The Darkened Room”) – a series of photograms created by the moonlight without a camera in her own bedroom – inspired her to explore further aspects of the medium.
Combining experimentation with light and atypical photographic and digital techniques while exploring her unique creative expression, Coutasʼ images poetically question the delicate relationship between form and substance.
