Artist statement
I’m interested in how space & objects hold memories. An empty high rise flat, ghost path, family photo, old billboards, tagging, graffiti. Connecting to create a visual response.
My work is about layering these ideas together. The direction has been to work on glass in reverse as I'm interested in playing with the order we reflect and what triggers memories. The silvering is an organic process, like screen printing, in the respect that you never know the true outcome until the silvering process. I create reverse art on glass using gilding, screen printing, spray paint, enamel paints and hand silvering. Silvering and gold are rooted in history as a way of showing wealth and grandness. Mirrors are everyday objects that don’t really exist, however, they confirm our physical self in reverse.
