(b. 1999, Detroit, MI) lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Cohen is an American painter whose work contains mystical alchemical undertones. Cohen spent much of her childhood in the small mountain town of Carbondale, CO. As an only child, she spent her time exploring nature to escape her complicated family situation, living out elaborate stories and adventures. The way she paints is shaped by living among the natural world, inspired by the fields, rivers, rocks, and trees that provided the landscape for her magical experiences. As an adult, her time spent living in coastal Costa Rica has expanded the horizons of her work. The blues of the ocean and deep jewel greens of the jungle deeply influence Cohen on both a spiritual and artistic level. Spending time in these places, Cohen notes, “I felt like I could observe the alchemy all around me, a beautiful self-sustaining ecosystem that became the basis of my painting practice.” She wants her work to be a space of rest, investigation, meditation, contemplation, and healing for whoever feels called to it. Cohen holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been exhibited in several group shows, including Divine Alchemy at Buffalo Prescott, Detroit, MI., and Frito Misto II at IRL Gallery, New York, NY. She recently had her debut solo show at New Art Dealers Alliance exhibition space in partnership with Trotter & Sholer and Buffalo Prescott.
