I am a Texas-born painter working between Brooklyn and the American Southwest, exploring the evolution of abstract expressionism through a highly individualized approach to color theory and material experimentation. My practice builds upon the legacy of postwar abstraction, yet departs from its historical center by reimagining gesture as a conduit for emotional and metaphysical inquiry. Color is central to my work- not only as a compositional tool, but as a psychological and symbolic force. I treat the canvas as an active surface where layers of pigment transparency, and tension unfold over time. My process often involves working horizontally, engaging the full reach and rhythm of the body with each mark. This physical engagement is not performance, but presence- an embodied dialogue with material. My work evolves through an ongoing dialogue between instinct and material, where each mark and layer guides the next, allowing the final piece to emerge as a coherent narrative of energy, intention, and reflection. Rooted in both instinct and intention, my paintings aim to open space for contemplation and resonance, inviting viewers into an experience that is both visceral and reflective, offering a new dimension to the ongoing conversation within the abstract world.
