A 2024 CUHK graduate (BSSc in Journalism, Dean’s List), her practice operates at the vital intersection of sociological research and evocative visual art. Her documentary instinct was ignited in childhood by Tintin’s investigative travels—a curiosity that matured into a deep commitment to the raw honesty of visual storytelling and rigorous archival research. Her visual research framework is further informed by human rights and gender studies pursued at the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice, Northeastern University in Boston, and through an MIT joint course in Gender and Sexuality.
Mentored by acclaimed storytellers Nick Danziger and Paul Yeung, Chen’s extensive field work spans coverage of the 2024 Taiwan Election, a three-year project on Shenzhen's urban village redevelopment(Between the Cracks, 2023–2026), and an archival documentary on rural female resilience in Northeast China (Splits and Sutures, ongoing). Her practice deeply engages with the systemic precarity of marginalized communities, documenting housing justice, sex workers' rights, animal welfare, and the existential realities of cancer patients. She was named a Finalist for the 2026 Photojournalism Prize (PJP) and is a double-award winner at the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association 'Focus at the Frontline' competition.
