Philippe Chaudrin, newly known by his artistic name C Phil, is a multidisciplinary creator primarily based in Bourges, in the Cher region of France, with regular ties to Guadeloupe. For over 37 years, he has practised painting, sculpture, photography, and writing—approaching each medium as a facet of the same artistic pursuit.
His inspirations range from art history to the myriad influences we observe and hear in the continuous flow of aesthetics—rooted in its etymology meaning “sensation” or “perception through the senses”—that is life itself, especially in today’s world where nearly everything is accessible to be seen, heard, and read.
Since 2012, he has exhibited in collective shows at L’atelier d’Amour Chammartin, located at 4 rue Ampère in Bourges. In 2023, he joined the NFA.space project as an artist. Among his conceptually reworked pieces is his graduation project from the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges, retitled Inflation and Degradation, in which he transformed paint residue—produced by the friction between paper and his hands—into sculptural paintings.
In his work, C Phil seeks to convey tenacity, resilience, space, and time—two key concepts of human experience according to Emmanuel Kant—and at times, difference and repetition, inspired by the title of a work by Gilles Deleuze. His creations are accompanied by texts that serve as their signature. Every event, whether human or natural, is an expression to be decoded and encoded through the senses, and this is precisely what he explores in his practice.
It all began for him in front of a television programme on the arts, where René Magritte’s The Red Model sparked his first artistic interpretation. This anecdote marks the beginning of his journey: a simple visual spectacle can open up an entire universe—provided one approaches it with curiosity and rigour.
