Ceilidh Meo’s art practice is a place for her to explore thoughts and feelings about sociopolitical, personal, economic and environmental issues and circumstances. She poses questions and offers ideas from her own experience of life and encourage others to think about the way in which they are living. Additional inspiration comes from other visual artists, poets, musicians and writers and she makes art in response to their ideas and words. The materials used are often recycled or reclaimed from other people’s waste via secondhand shops, thus supporting various local charities at the same time as producing new works. Much of Ms Meo’s art sits on the edge of the conceptual, abstract movements. People are encouraged to connect with the work by giving them a clear idea of her intentions via the title of each piece. By suggesting the entry point to the audience in this way, she give them a key via which they can interpret her intentions for each piece. Textile construction has been a part of life since her childhood, but she has moved away from the more practical applications of yarn manipulation in recent years to explore the artistic possibilities of this medium. Textile art adds warmth and vitality to a room, a sense of the cosy homeliness we seek in our dwellings. Ms Meo’s art brings a sense of security to any space, while at the same time, being a thought-provoking conversation starter. After all, art is a form of communication between the artist and the audience.
