After decades practicing law, I returned to my first love — art. I enjoy creating a unified whole from seemingly unrelated components, achieving balance through intricate juxtapositions of color, form and texture. With a sense of color and whimsy reflecting my Venetian background, I spent many years designing opulent torsades.
Using segments of those necklaces, I now create surrealistic sculptures that vary from decorative to whimsical to comments on serious themes such as shrinking polar ice, women’s rights, and social injustice. In many cases, a sculpture’s deeper meaning is understood only by reading the accompanying text.
I use a wide range of additional elements including fine dollhouse miniatures, realistic animal models, richly textured fabrics, found objects, art board, wood and digitally manipulated photographs. Each sculpture is one-of-a-kind.
I have them custom framed in a thick, decorative frame that curves outward to bring the scene or “room” closer to the viewer. The use of museum glass preserves the color intensity and intimacy of the piece by creating the illusion that the viewer is present at the scene.
