Cavalcante was born and lives in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Self-taught, he
has published cartoons and illustrations in some of the largest newspapers in
Brazil over the past two decades, and has received the “Award of Excellence-
Art and Illustration”, from the US-based Society of Newspaper Design (SND), for
his set of works published in the newspaper “O Globo”. In 2013, he was invited
to participate in a special publication about Brazil at the “Courrier
International”, in France. He also participated in an international festival in
the city of Amadora, in Portugal.
Cavalcante held exhibitions in
Brazil and abroad, including the collective “A Imagem do Som”, at Paço
Imperial; “The New Aesthetics of Caricature”, in Portugal; “Rio Seen by its
Artists” by the Rio de Janeiro Creation Club; “Humor in War Times”, at Laura
Alvim House of Culture; “Illustrations and Portraits” at the Telephone Museum
and “Rio Graphics” at the National Museum of Fine Arts.
In 2014, he exhibited his works
at the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) a retrospective of his career, in
which he mixed graphic works and paintings on canvas, an activity to which he has
been working most intensely in recent years. The exhibition was recommended by
the critics of “Veja”, the main magazine of the country, as one of the best of
Rio de Janeiro in the period.
