According to Stefania, painting means to step outside the boundaries that curb the creative flow, which is, by its very nature, unforeseen. Her project stems from a sequence of photographs of a boundary wall in Nara, the ancient capital of Japan, randomly taken by Stefania Carè. These accidental images reveal the own singularity of the fragment. The shapes meet the instant experience and bring together life to imaginary sceneries.
The pictorial work realized on the photographs is the result of the fragmented memories of the artist’s journey expressed through an essential and refined aesthetic dimension. Japanese culture emerges from the interplay between tradition and innovation and seeks harmony in every aspect of life. The view of the world comes through nature and is expressed in a simple and austere beauty, transcending the outward appearance. The straight and clean lines embody a bare essentiality to release the free interpretation.
The space and the silence become “empty space full of sense”. The presence of the wall accentuates the contrast between the movement and immobility and reveals an imperfect and harmonic nature with the roughness of its surface. The artist creates imaginary architectural forms inspired by the artworks of contemporary Japanese architecture. Simple geometries, enclosed volumes gradually open up to the light. Bare and silent walls embrace the element of nature, creating a continuity between the outer and the inner.
The surface becomes in its simplicity the story of everyday life rhythms and the depository of memories, by combining simplicity and shape to the complexity of the space. The photographic background disruptively emerges and becomes the crucial element to boost imagination, solicit the observer’s empathy and express the aesthetic of essence. The surfaces provide inspiration to the artist with their magnetism, turning into special containers of emotions and fragments of memories.
