Ilse Carbonez deals mostly concerning the phenomenological of
photography. Seeing something, isn’t possible to grasp in one gaze.
Therefore travelling is often a keyword in her artistic approach of the
image. She explores different media in a playful way in order to get
closer to the medium. It’s about repetiton, desire and some subtle
gestures that appear and disappear.
Trying to touch space by making use of light.
There is space in all kinds and forms.
Being and getting aware of something, one does by entering a space.
Photography makes you enter another, brighter and more layered space. Layered in space and time. By taking images, I am slowly finding out, the borders, where they end and where they start.
The borders of the image sometimes intervene with the borders of the space.
What is space, what is light, what is an image, what is time.
Those questions make me continue making pictures as long as the image keeps surprising me and make me look different to time and space.
