Vincenzo Cantone (Naples, 2004)
My artistic practice emerges from the encounter between music and painting, two languages I use to transform personal experiences into suspended, emotionally charged images. My musical background constantly informs my pictorial work, shaping its atmosphere and emotional intensity. In some cases, my paintings are conceived in dialogue with original musical compositions, exploring the same themes and narratives.
My works originate from fragments of lived experience—journeys, relationships, nights, friendships, and places I have inhabited—which I collect through photographs taken in everyday life and later reinterpret through drawing and painting. My approach is instinctive and immediate, resembling the process of songwriting: I begin with impressions, atmospheres, and memories to construct intimate, cinematic scenes characterized by soft light, blur, and a strong emotional presence.
The works share a nocturnal and generational dimension, where love, solitude, desire, and vulnerability coexist within seemingly ordinary moments. Through charcoal, I seek to convey the fragility of memory and the tension between presence and disappearance, transforming personal experiences into open images capable of evoking a collective memory.
