My name is Maurice Calvert. However, I was born Maurice Dupree Sweets in Rocksprings, Wyoming in 1981 and shortly there after my mother father, along with my brother, and I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where I was raised. From a very young age, I loved to doodle, and my mind would wander while looking at the beauty of nature and God‘s creation. I would look up at the sky at night while camping with my grandparents and cousins at big Sandy, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park. I would Just wonder at the beauty of the night sky even at this very early age. I knew there had to be a creator as I grow older and older. I continued to dabble in art, drawing characters of my favorite cartoons, such as wolverine from the X-Men and the ninja Turtles. as time went on I just continued to do Art. When I went to high school teachers would look at what I was doing and encouraged me and my grandparents would do the same. Both my mother and my fathers side would encourage me to continue to do art and finally as I graduated high school I eventually made it to Jackson State University where I studied graphic design , and did my art on the side. For the past 18 years, I have been making and creating art as well as teaching visual arts on the middle school level and for the past 10 years I’ve been working at an art institute in Brookhaven Mississippi teaching visual arts to very talented 11th and 12th graders.
