Short biography. My name is Luis Bria Mas, and I was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1972. Since I was a child I was influenced by my mother (an amateur oil painter) and in my early years I already loved drawing and painting. I attended my first drawing lessons in my town when I was 12 years old. The main inspiration of my work is colour. Most of my paintings are watercolour, abstract, vitalist, cheerful, alive, based upon colours power and their undendless combinations. In my 20s I started to get interested in photography, and nowadays I develop my artistic work in both disciplines: painting and photography. In my pictures light and colour are again the basis, and I get my inspiration from alive elements or bright colours: landscapes, vegetal elements/flowers in urban contexts, or any bright traits that captures the eye. Most of my photographs are realistic but I like experiencing and innovating. Several of my photographs of Valencia collections have been edited on postcards, calendar, notebooks and other printed material. The target of my work is to awake in the viewer an immediate positive feeling, to spread a spontaneous joy of living and turn on inner vitality. My photographs and paintings contain a basic element that unifies all my work: through light and colour they invoke and convey vital energy, élan vital. They express my personal conception of life where inanimate and living beings are connected and share a vital spark that I try to capture and express in a fresh and bright style. Although I love travelling and I get my inspiration from very different scenarios, my origins have been very important in my work, since the Spanish area of Valencia and the Albufera lagoon is well known for a special light that is present in many of my photograph collections. This natural tendency to detect and capture the most vivid traits of reality through my camera is equivalent to the natural wish of expressing my inner light through the bright colourful images of my paintings. Fresh expression of intense feelings that convey vitality and spiritual energy, wishing to provoke on the observer the most vivid impressions. As I mentioned before, I enjoy innovating and one of the works I present for this year contest mixes up photography and painting: "Selfie" is a photographic composition where all backgrounds are watecolour paintings of my own. The five other paintings I present belong to my 2018 watercolours collections: - "Primavera di stelle"
- "L'alba"
- "Lucciole"
- "Ignoto"
- "Carol"
Venice is a city I have visited 8 times, and it is my second homeland in terms of inspiration. I have several photography collections of the city and the lagoon, and its magic has inspired also some of my watercolour paintings. This is one of the reasons why I apply for this contest, together with the freedom of styles and techniques promoted by the organisation. I studie Law at the University of Valencia, and I also work as a lawyer in my family tradition buffet in Benifaya. My work specially focuses on family law and urbanism. I studied Italian and English and I am learning German at the moment. Apart from painting and photography, I love music, cinema and literatura. My present residence is in Valencia, but I am a freelancer and I have total geographical mobility. I speak Spanish, Valencian, English and Italian. Please don't hesitate to contact me in any of these languages, should you require further biographical information.
