Julian Bonequi began his career interested in transmedia art while studying Philosophy at UNAM Mexico. After finishing specialized studies in the Master of Video Game Design and the Master of 3D Animation at the Pompeu Fabra University, he collaborated with Groups of Interactive Technologies and of Neuroscience in Barcelona, as well as guest performer with orchestras and improvised music ensembles in Madrid, London, Istanbul, Barcelona, Paris, Berlin and Mexico. His focus as an artist, technologist, and extended reality composer hybridizes artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, and liminal narratology concepts working with New Media Phygital Materialities and Interactive Art, focused on the creation of day-to-day interfaces and participatory experiences that help us think through our bodies while channeling ‘haptically embodied cognition’ of what we don’t see or listen to yet.
Awarded by the Konzerthaus Berlin 'Interactive Composition' competition as a VR Artist and Interaction Designer in 2019. Member of the National System of Art Creators SNCA-FONCA Mexico 2017. Winner of CTM Radio Lab Berlin 2017. Support Program for Research & Production in New Media of the National Center for the Arts (CENART) in Mexico 2016 for his live VR Chamber Opera.
In 2021, he premiered live XR al Fresco, an interactive augmented reality score for 1,300 voices at the Digital Culture Center, commissioned by the XRHub Munich. and in 2022, he presented his first artificial intelligence solo show, "GA.IA: Portraits and Visions in Multispecies Scenarios" with the prestigious MAIA Contemporary Gallery in Mexico City. His work focuses on decolonial aesthetics, interactive-textile semiotics, and immersive extended-reality performances.
