Adopted into a progressive family, my father worked with Dr. Martin
Luther King in the Civil Rights Movement and protesting the end to
senseless wars abroad. This background shaped my need to create work
that documents the carnage on civilians during war.
From an early age, I
began making and selling beautifully woven belts on an Inkle Loom,
highlighting my creativity and love for the arts. I then began
painting in acrylic and watercolor, knowing I wanted to explore more
of what the art world had to offer in college.
Earning my Associate
of Arts degree in Fine Arts and Childhood Development at Santa Ana
College, I was able to explore art through oak plywood and paint to
create abstract wall reliefs. At the California State University of
Fullerton, I continued my studies in figurative painting, earning a
Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts with honors.
For the next 28
years, I taught elementary school students, earning my Master of Arts
in Education from Biola University in the process. Throughout my
career in education, I continued creating a documentation of
historical events from the invasion of Iraq, and political races for
the President of the United States.
Now in retirement, I
am using my creativity and fabric skills to make beautifully crafted
artistic quilts and wall hangings; the visual display of colors
vibrating throughout each piece. By embracing cultures throughout the
series of quilts and wall hangings, I strive to bring the world a
little closer together.
Continuing the
series of political pieces is my main focus and mission to allow the
viewer the opportunity to see the world through a different lens.
