Background:
My story began with the production of a folding
bike. I wanted to keep my office wear clean, so decided to build a chainless
commuter bicycle equipped with carbon belt drive system. The idea to upcycle
the spare parts not used for the bike was the first step... I designed the very
first desk lamp when my daughter started school and she did not want to sit at
her desk. It was a success story: she liked it and started to do her homework. Later
some friends asked me to do the same for their kids so I started to make them
in different colors.
Development:
In 2015 a client wanted me to produce a ceiling
lamp system made of bicycle wheels for his office. The prototype has been
approved after 3 months’ development. As his organization grew, I designed and
installed complete lighting solutions in Budapest, Bratislava, Krakow and
Prague offices.
The bike desk lamp had a crowdfunding campaign
on the Indiegogo platform in 2016 and raised $10,198 by 62 backers, and been sold in 19 countries all over Europe plus in the United States
The boundary of art and design:
In 2016 a Budapest based art gallery decided to
organize a wide focus exhibition and selected my works to present. As they invited me in 2017 also, I was the only designer exhibiting in two consecutive
years.
In Q1 2018 I was selected to participate on the
1st edition of Artrooms Fair in Rome, Italy. The selection committee
noted that my works are at the boundary of art and design.
My first and only public art installation 'The Carousel' was launched in Gödöllő, Hungary.
Since then I have re-designed various objects. Bookshelf from piano, table from hockey sticks, couch and armchair from car seats or wardrobe from phone booth? No problem! Upcycling is like cucina povera - transforming humble ingredients to unforgettable products. The best feedback when someone says: 'We used to have this product at home in my childhood'. This is my way of design.
