Since graduating from Reading University in Fine Art in 1994 I trained as a secondary school teacher in art. I have taught art since 1998; in 2013 took my Masters in Fine Art with The Open College Of Arts. My background is in painting but my practice encompasses a wider range of drawing, painting, photography and sculpture now.
In 2019 I lost my hearing over night to Sudden Sensioneural Hearing loss; since this my practice involves researching the condition. The human cochlea is difficult to image and therefore it is hard to find out the causes. Therefore my practice focuses on the medical imaging of the cochlear. The work I produce is made on Perspex and aims to capture the luminosity from these images. By studying Transmission Electron Microscopy I am learning how the ear connects with the brain and the central nervous system. I hope to continue using my art practice as a means of heightening awareness of the innovative work being made in this field.
