The artistic journey of Guevorg Antonyan
Graduating from the School of Fine Arts of Armenia in 1990, Guevorg Antonyan (1973) continued his apprenticeship at the State University of Arts in his native country. He concluded his academic training at the Studio Berçot fashion school in Paris.
In 2005, he became a designer of accessories for luxury brands in the French capital. He left the fashion sector in 2011 and moved to Strasbourg to devote himself to his passion, art. He developed his artistic practice in different mediums, and took a decisive turning point in 2022, when he discovered the techniques and materials that today form his identity, acrylic paint and thermoplastic.
Guevorg Antonyan's abstract painting and sculpture invites you to get lost in a supernatural aquatic world
Dive into the abyss with the abstract works of Franco-Armenian artist Guevorg Antonyan
Have you ever dreamed of exploring the abyss, these deep waters that know no light? Guevorg Antonyan does not raise the mystery of this strange aquatic world but probes it, using abstract shapes and colors.
His thermoplastic sculptures seem to freeze the random movement of water in space-time, while his abstract paintings serve as a phantasmagorical cabinet of curiosities. Creatures with undulating shapes and luminous colors seem to evolve in the darkness...
When he creates, Guevorg Antonyan is at the heart of a spiritual exercise in which the conscious and the unconscious, knowledge and chance meet. Although abstract, his work must carry a message, a form of idealism capable of moving its viewer. She sublimates reality by transfiguring it through shapes and colors whose result seems unreal.
In painting as in sculpture, his creations tickle the associative imagination. Indeed, his colorful abstract canvases and molten plastic sculptures have an evocative power. Free to interpretation, they offer a glimpse of the marine life that populates the abyss or even a cluster of supernovas. His series of sculptures and paintings are named according to the principle of exoplanets.
Guevorg Antonyan is indeed fascinated by the wonders of nature, one of his inexhaustible sources of inspiration, which provides him with a rich palette of colors and mind-blowing shapes. The fantastic creatures that inhabit them interact and metamorphose without ever destroying each other.
Between the microcospic world and the macroscopic world, Guevorg Antonyan's paintings offer a glimpse of strange worlds, both distant and close to us, imaginary and real.
