Antonio Vestrella and Morgan Maggiolini, founders of the “collectif morant”, study and model the forms of nature by integrating natural and artificial materials.
It is the encounter between a landscape architect and an artist, between those who study the forms of the territory and those who model them on the territory. Since 2018, the year in which these artists form the collective they collaborate in the modeling of green walls, transforming them from vertical gardens to three-dimensional gardens, from plant sculptures into urban ecosystems.
Not all forms can host a plant cover. From the work of the two artists, forms conceived at the limits of vertical agriculture arise, where plants develop their roots between two layers of fibrous material anchored to the wall of the sculpture. Different materials are integrated into the lightness of natural and artificial forms: polymers, aluminum and steel that the two artist-craftsmen expertly assemble and fix to the walls of internal and external spaces. A new way of decontextualizing the urban space while respecting the principles of sustainability.
In their installations, an atmosphere develops that goes beyond the simple visual qualities of form to transform into a sensory experience due to the lights and shadows, the scents of the plants used, the texture of the leaves and the sound of water droplets. The idea is that of a sensitive body linked to the urban landscape and at the same time sensory property of the observer.
