"He is the skeleton from which all the other meat hangs.”- Boris Mikhailov
"It's like art.." - Sir Grayson Perry
Overall winner of Photographic Art at the 7th Arte Laguna Prize and 1st prize winner at the Sony World Photography Awards, Ansett's work can be found in some ion the world's most prestigious public collections.
Ansett's drive to explore the world and a fascination with other people’s lives is a consequence of his dislocation born from the lack of any information about his genetic and cultural heritage. The detachment born of his adoption from birth has become his superpower in an empathy for his subjects and it inspires a relentless examination of his relationship to reality with the camera.
Always an outsider looking into the world, seeking answers, Ansett's practice prioritises photography as more than traditional documentation merely of others. As the closest medium to objective realism combined with his unique personal experience, he argues that photography offers a platform for a dialogue about our relationship to reality truth through the example of his own open and renewed experience. Mirroring his life experience, his most successful works are detached from what he considers reductive narrative in the pursuit of an unresolvable, existential enquiry.
