Destiny Andrews is an emerging artist who studied art throughout her adolescence and young adult life; recently started working towards being a full time studio artist. While in middle school and high school she gained experience and showed promise working with acrylic, charcoal and the human form through various classes including the accredited pre college program at California College Arts in Oakland.Although she took a hiatus from painting for a few years following highschool and after experiencing a personal loss, she reapproached art with casual experimentation in new medias. Towards the end of her academic career, at University, Destiny discovered her true love for painting in her first oil painting class. She quickly took to the layered methods of the masters, developed tact and created realist recreations as well as original works. After graduating from the University of Santa Cruz with a Bachelors in Arts in European history, she took a design oriented job in the lighting industry, where she still currently works part time.-design , autocad light design, physical model fabrication. In her spare time she continued to develop her skills as an oil painter at home. After an inspiring trip to Europe, Destiny began creating more complex original compositions, and working towards professional artistry. Her recent work shows that there can be moments and experiences of great beauty— people full of potential; only if we pull ourselves away from all of modern vices that are meant to distract us from appreciating the aspects of true value all around us. Inspired by classical methods, her work uses art-history cultural of references, juxtaposed by the presence of modern life and devices, to develop strong compositions—both visually striking, yet thought provoking. Each piece develops in an organic and calculated process, allowing time to be fluid, but in some cases the result of hundreds of hours. While her painting may be time consuming they retain an impressionist quality.
