He
studied Visual Arts at the University School of Arts in Coimbra, where he had
the privilege of being mentored by the painter João Dixo.
He holds a degree in Sculpture from the School of Technologies of Coimbra.
He has been teaching continuously for over three decades.
Throughout
his career, he participated in both solo and group exhibitions across the
country and abroad. However, he always felt the need to find his own artistic
path. This period of pause was, above all, a moment of reflection to define a
direction, a true leitmotiv for his work.
Over
the years, he has also developed activities in various fields, including
archaeological excavations in both mainland and insular Portugal,
archaeological restoration, architectural photography, and underwater
photography, gradually setting painting aside.
He
is currently focused on two main themes:
- Fortifications and landscapes of the Alentejo region, explored through the
delicate technique of watercolor;
- Doors and windows, drawn from across the Iberian Peninsula and the islands,
using oil painting, the medium he believes offers the greatest expressive
potential.
Windows
have always been a subject that fascinated him. Whether modern or traditional,
weathered or well-preserved, they, like doors, carry stories: of those who
built them, those who lived behind them, and those who still do.
There
is something deeply compelling about observing closely, paying attention to
aesthetic details, and sometimes imagining the life behind them. It is a
curious gaze into intimacy. That is what he aims to capture, moving
deliberately away from traditional perspectives.

mestre o pintor João Dixo.
Licenciado em Escultura pela
Escola de Tecnologias de Coimbra.
Exerce de forma ininterrupta a
docência há mais de três décadas.
Participou em exposições
individuais e coletivas um pouco por todo o país e estrangeiro, mas sentia que
tinha de encontrar o seu caminho. Esta pausa temporal teve como objetivo
principal encontrar uma linha de trabalho, um “leitmotiv”.
Ao longo dos anos desenvolveu outras
atividades em diversas áreas tais como escavações arqueológicas em Portugal
continental e insular; restauro arqueológico, fotografia arquitetónica e
subaquática deixando um pouco de lado a pintura.
Atualmente está a “trabalhar”
sobre duas temáticas a saber:
Fortificações e paisagens do
Alentejo, explorando a técnica da aguarela.
Portas e janelas, um pouco de toda
a península e ilhas, utilizando à técnica de pintura que quanto a mim mais
possibilidades permite, o óleo.
As janelas sempre foram um tema
que me seduziu. Modernas ou tradicionais, degradadas ou em bom estado, tal como
as portas têm uma história para contar, tanto das pessoas que as construíram,
como das que as habitaram ou ainda o fazem.
É interessante olhar com atenção
e focar-nos em pormenores estéticos e as vezes imaginar a vida que há por trás
delas. Um olhar curioso para a intimidade. É isso que pretendo “retratar”
fugindo desde já aos ângulos tradicionais.
