Rodrigo Alonso Cuesta was born in Burgos in 1982. Since he was very tender, he was already looking to apprehend his closest reality. His childhood aesthetic experiences were germinating in the world of creative construction. It was developed with tasks and games that involved building and creating.
He has a drawing, as a child, in which his artistic potential is perceived. This drawing not only distinguishes the ability to visualize the courtyard of his school in an overhead view (detail that shows an advanced spatial vision); In addition, he registered the chromatic impression of the patio with the red color that caught his attention. But it must have been so important that he underlines it with the following text: "My patio is red." Perhaps here is the origin of the extreme connection that he has with color right now.
He grows and does not stop drawing absorbed. Given his gifts, at the age of twelve he entered the "Consulate of the Sea", which is the Provincial Academy of Drawing of Burgos. Throughout these years, the hours pass by holding on to a pencil under the guidance of Carlos Sáez. Black and white sheets of graphite follow one another. The chiaroscuro becomes his domain. In the last courses, he ascends to the classroom of the natural one. The formats expand and learn to fit real motifs. These years of study open the doors to the Faculty of Fine Arts of Salamanca, after passing the entrance exam.
At this stage of adolescence, he not only applied himself to drawing, he also dared with his father's analog reflex camera. And the eye is learning to shoot reality.
In addition, his growth was debated in the way of being authentic and investigating his provocative and sensitive identity.
Already in the Faculty of Fine Arts, his creative progress was a magma that multiplied and at the same time acquired solid foundations when training with a classical study. During his initiation, he studied the disciplines of drawing, painting, volume and photography; it is there where he learns to fit in, to value light, to compose, to handle color, to study reality through the observation of nature.
His professional stage as a painter began when he finished his studies in Fine Arts. He has already made a solo exhibition for which he is applauded by the public and critics. Here a style with a stamp is already guessed, but that will have to mature in its progression. And it will.
He also begins his teaching work at the same time as the pictorial. He considers art education as an enriching exercise, since it is necessary to verbalize and explain what is of visual and plastic origin. He works as a teacher in different Institutes of Burgos, passes through Madrid, the University of Burgos, Villarcayo in the province of Burgos and ends in Cantavieja de Teruel.
His eagerness to complement his training in the narrative world of the image, led him to graduate in Audiovisual Communication at the University of Burgos in 2013, but he considered it as a complement. Because above all he proclaims himself a painter. And his way of speaking will be painting. That was always his voice.
In successive summers he attends workshops and courses with prestigious painters such as Eduardo Sanz, a painter in love with the sea and without complexes regarding the validity of abstract or figurative painting; Jose María Mezquita, with an almost engineering method to measure reality and transfer it to painting; Juan Genovés, who provokes him to claim his own speech as an artist; and Antonio López, of clever wit, clairvoyant in his arguments and humble in his greatness.
The time has come when "style" proclaims itself guided by its emotional drives, instructed by all these places. His taste has gone through formal schools and, above all, he moves through the gorge that educates and guides the profession itself.
In the words of the author himself: “I am the channel that humbly and honestly expresses my truth through painting. I try to generate a speech that moves through my pictorial narratives ”.
Painting is my vital pulse. I speak with the reason that structures the form.
