Andrea Alkalay is a visual artist currently based in Argentina with a degree in Industrial Design (UBA). Was trained in photography attending workshops and art programs, experimenting with alternative techniques and creative processes. She took part in Proyecto Imaginario, an overall curated program for visual artists based on photography from 2015 to 2016. She traveled for “the natural eye ” workshop with Eddie Soloway (2017- USA). Uncertain nature in her authorial photobook launched in 2016.

She uses photography through the poetic and political potential that arises from observation, interested in the discrepancy between what we see and what we know, where these qualities contradict each other and coexist simultaneously. Another line of inquiry of her practice is the voyage. The condition of foreignness and displacement is a source of inspiration. Artificial and natural elements are combined to infuse strangeness into the work and thus question our societal and emotional realities. 

(2022) Selected for Art Residency Al Balad Program from the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia. (2021) 1 place Latin American Professional Award by the World Photography Organisation, Head On Photo Festival (finalist -Sydney), DongGang Festival in Corea (Museum of Photography), Le Prix de la Photographie Paris. (2018) Urban Territories portfolio 1 place at the Light Festival Argentina with a solo exhibition (Fine Arts Museum Franklin Rawson) and Chile, Mexico, and in the 8th Photography Biennale Tucumán.

Recent shows (2022) include the Amalgama Art group exhibition for Latin American woman artists in London and Bogota, BAPhoto ( OdA Arte – Argentina), Pinta Miami Art Fair ( USA).
