My name is Maria Aleksandrovich, I was born in 1976 in Minsk, Belarus. As far as I can remember myself I was always doing sculptures from different materials: bread, plastelin, clay… The first sculpture “A dog” was made by me at the age of three and I still have it at home. In my childhood I had a dream to become a jeweler, to work with metals. In the year 1987-1988 I was participating in a sculpture course conducted in the Art School #1 in Minsk by my favorite teacher Inessa Vladimirovna (do not remember her surname). In 1988 I become a student at the Art School #1 in Minsk. In 1991 I had my first success, I was the winner of the School Sculpture Contest with my sculpture “Birthday of Infanta Margarita”. A year later in 1992 I finish the Art School and was preparing for the exams in the Belarusian Academy of Arts. Just one week before the exams, under the pressure of my mother, I changed my mind and become a student of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University, which I successfully graduated from in 1998 with diploma with honor on the speciality “Practical Psychology and Foreign Language”. In the University my main field of study was “Psychology of Intelligence and Giftedness”. In 2004 I defended my PhD theses at Moscow University of Psychology and Pedagogics. Although didn’t continue my higher education in the Art Academy I was always following my interests in Art, in sculpturing and drawing. So, during all these years I was using my free time for sculpturing and studying the History of Art. My Art preferences are Middle Age German Sculptures, Sculptures made by Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi, better known as Donatello and after a big time jump – Impressionism. Since 2005 I have been living and working in Slupsk, Poland. Nowadays I am working as an Assistant professor at the Department of Psychology, Pomeranian University. My first exhibition I had in May, 2008 during the IV Pomeranian Educational Forum “Multicultural Pomeranian region. Multicultural Slupsk” in the Theatre “Rondo”, Slupsk. It was an exhibition mostly of the sculptures made of plastelin “Angel”, “Sad Angel”, “Annunciation”, “Roses”, “Two ladies” and others. Meanwhile, together with my daughter Sophia, I have started to participate in the ceramic workshops in “Ceramikarnia”, where we are actively working with clay. In summer 2012 I discovered a new interesting for me Art technique “Powertex” (a textile hardener which allows you to create solid, weatherproof sculptures from fabric). After that a new wave of sculpturing started. In February 2013 I presented nine of mine sculptures, seven done in “Powertex” at the exhibition “Ladies…” in the Academic Art Gallery at the Pomeranian University. Among them were: “Lonely knight”, “Spring”, “Lady with white umbrella”, “Lady in black”, “Three graces”. The both exhibitions in 2008 and 2013 had positive social resonance. Since 2013 I am working at Powertex workshop, making sculptures andalso conductiong art workshops for children and adults. In July 2013 I went to Lodz, where under the supervision of Anna Walaszczyk I fulfilled Powertex’s trainer courses I, II and III levels and later in 2017 I made the IVth level. In May 2018 I took part with my works in the exhibition “Nukkukunst”, Tallin Estonia and in December 2018-February 2019 at the exhibition “Панна Doll’я”, Minsk, Belarus. In 2013 I have been trying my luck in the Art Prize Arte Laguna. This year I decided to try again. Hope for your positive evaluation of my work. And I am sure this experience will be definitely a new interesting step in my Art career development.
