Adesakin Mary Damilola is a Nigerian artist born in the early 2000s in the historic city of Ile-Ife, Osun State. From a young age, she found comfort in creativity and expression, a foundation that led her to study Fine and Applied Arts at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo.
Working primarily with thread and acrylic, Mary transforms stitching into a powerful artistic language. Her practice reflects a deep engagement with themes of vulnerability, resilience, and identity, using thread to connect emotional and cultural narratives. Drawing from her Yoruba background, her work explores the tension between being held by societal and cultural structures and the desire for personal growth and independence.
Her distinctive approach to thread painting has earned her recognition both locally and internationally. She has been featured in the Life In My City Art Festival (LIMCAF) and the Deep in Thought Art Exhibition 2024, Tola Wewe Art Gallery and her work has been exhibited in Paris at L’exposition, marking an important milestone in her artistic journey.
