John Adelman, a Houston, Texas based Conceptual Artist, was born and raised in Norwalk, Ohio, a small town in the northwest portion of the state. Adelman earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and Master of Fine Arts at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. His drawings and paintings focus on layering and use sets of multiples. The works are meticulous and time consuming. The layering process coupled with the use of gel ink pen (on canvas) develops slowing and creates rich, dense surfaces. As with the use of gel ink pens, Adelman has received much critical acclaim being named one of Houston’s 100 most creative by the Houston Press in 2011. Other newspaper reviews in the Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Dallas Observer and been featured in such magazines as Aether (2016, Austin, TX), Swirl (2013, Conroe, TX) and twice in New American Paintings (2013, 2017, Boston, MA.) Adelman has had more than twenty solo and two-person exhibitions.
