Adauta

António Adauta started his handcraft activity in 1990 while in Coimbra as student re-discovered the Conímbriga´s mosaics. Once he masters the Arraiolos stitch - long legged stitch - technique, he built a new product – Quadros a Ponto de Arraiolos – (framed handmade bordarie). To do that he made an adaptation of the mosaics patterns to Arraiolos stitch, using innovating materials specially thought for the purpose.

He worked for three years making the Arraiolos patterns and handmade 16 prototypes. In 1992, the Secretary of Cultural classified this work as – remarkable cultural interest – fit for art sponsorship.

After 1993, António Adauta attended various handcraft Fairs and made several exhibition shows – from North to South of Portugal – showing not only an innovating way of working the Arraiolos Stitch but also the Roman mosaics of Conímbriga.

         In 1998 Centauro Marinho® was awarded with the Golden Anchor Trophy, in 2005 A.D.N. and after in 2006 Centro Entrelaçado® were distinguish with Honourable Mention in a contests sponsored by the Coats threads. Still in 2006 Minotauro® was ex-aequo Handicraft Fair of Famalicão First Prize. 

         In 2015 Cruzes® had a Honourable Mention in FIALISBOA: best piece of contemporary craft.

            In 2022 he joined Homo Faber Guide - The Michelangelo Foundation. Later in this year he was awarded a Gold Medal in The Architecture and Design Collection Awards - the Art and Luxury Design Built category.

In 2023 he was awarded a Bronze Medal in A' Design Award - Handmade, Crafts and Artisan Design Category;  a Bronze Medal in Houzze Awards - Art and Accessories category .

Caos® was awarded a Silver Medal in MUSE Design Awards - Product Design, Textiles category. 

            In 2024 Minotauro® was awarded a Special Mention in German Design Awards in the Excellent Product Design - Design Classics and Re-editions category.
