Taking a photograph is not often associated with the unexpected. In fact randomness is almost the antithesis of photography. It can be assumed that the subject of a photograph is intended to be the focus and purpose of the work.
My work is about warping the medium of photography and celebrates the element of surprise. The volatile method used to create my works ensures a great likelihood of failure. The uncertainty of the process goes against traditional photographic methods but can result in organic captivating images. The distortion of reality draws out the subconscious of the beholder. The more you look the more you see, encouraging ones mind to look past what is assumed to be truth.
The alterations I make to the frames originally captured refine the photographs. The elegance and delicacy of the images is a direct contrast to the feelings of foreboding that permeate the works.
