Mediterranean village tapestry

Memories of a panorama of Southern Italian villages with the characteristic symmetrical composition of random clusters of houses and geometrically shaped fields. The composition invites the viewer to wander through the scene and find their own story. It’s not a map, but a memory—stitched together with emotion, light, and the quiet hum of village life. The hillside scheme creates a feeling of balance and stability. The hilltop village dominates the skyline, with the sombre shades of dusk as a background. In spite of the dark sky, however, the painting needed a few highlights, and artistic license is forgiving.  I used a number of delicate glazes to unite the various units in the work.
