I am an Australian artist working with mixed media on canvas. The colorful mixed media works are a multi-layered pastiche of urbanism, pop culture and references to art history. I arrange disparate images of anything and everything drawing inspiration from vintage magazine ads and images in the first instance then allowing the image to dictate a story naturally, unveiling itself to me along the way. Nothing is contrived, everything makes sense on completion/retrospectively. It is how I have always worked and I simply give in to the process. For me, it's about the relationship between humour and art, the imagination and reality, and succumbing to the artistic message, whatever it may be. I am an avid traveler, have lived in France and Greece and sailed the Caribbean, Coral and Irish seas before recently relocating to the Costa Brava, Spain. Although I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia I have lived both in the city and in the country on a farm for a long time while raising my three children. I now work from my studio in the tiny Spanish medieval hamlet of Rabos, a magical place steeped in history, myths and legends. Salvador Dali referred to Rabos as 'The Centre of the Universe' because people come from all over the world to live here. I understand the impulse.. I have exhibited at Agora Gallery, Chelsea, New York City; fortyfivedownstairs, Melbourne, Australia; The Nevica Project, Chicago; Winner Victorian Women's Award for the 'Walk of Art'; Finalist Churchie National Emerging Art Competition; Offered an Artist in Residence, Montana, USA.
