Today, landscape in art can become not only a simple representation of nature, a source of inspiration and emotion, but also a visual metaphor. In my series “Streaming Landscapes” where I create abstract compositions subtly referring to the landscape and encouraging the concept of a better future by reflecting on such a complex social process as emigration. Emigration, like the abstract landscape, opens up many new horizons for man, filled with countless possibilities and new hopes. It is a complex, multi-layered social process affecting millions of people around the world. It involves many political, economic, cultural aspects as well as deeply emotional states. My series “Streaming Landscapes” is a personal emotional response to this process. I have experienced the difficulties of emigration, experienced fear and uncertainty but found hope, met challenges but came to acceptance in harmony. Being in the same situation as many thousands of Ukrainians who left their native lands en masse and have no opportunity to return to their homeland because of the martial law in the country, I use the landscapes of the vast expanses of Ukraine as flashes of memories of native places, translating them into abstraction. Just as my abstract landscapes are full of different elements, each with its own meaning and value, just as the variety of colours and textures enriches my work, so emigration gives us new horizons of freedom and enriches our culture. In my paintings, stains and lines exist in flux symbolising the movement of people across borders and continents towards hope and new possibilities. Although chaotic, everything exists in unity, forming harmonious, abstract patterns that demonstrate integration and mutual enrichment. My paintings are about hope and unification.
