Xiaoyu Zhang is a doctoral student at Tsinghua University, a visiting scholar at the University of Edinburgh. Her artistic practice centers on felt-making, with a focus on identity, material culture, and the transformation of traditional crafts within contemporary contexts—particularly the development and expressive potential of felting. Influenced by nomadic textile traditions and informed by field research and cultural studies conducted in northwest China, her work integrates natural fibers with modern materials to articulate senses of cultural belonging. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and she has participated in various projects involving craft, design, and academic research.
