Before attending the art academy in The Hague (1992-1994), Karin van der Molen studied international law, and holds a degree as human rights lawyer (1990). While shifting her mayor attention to the arts, she also worked a a graphic designer, journalist and as an assistant to a documentary filmmaker (1994-ongoing). To adress her fields of interest, her artistic practice evolved towards being project-based and multi media, using the techniques that are fitting to the project. They are a blend of sculpture and installation, ephemeral and semi-permanent, rooted in a profound connection with ecology and society. Nowadays she also delves into video and uses photography to document her ephemeral pieces and performances.
Her socially engaged art practice extends to the foundation of and participation in two international artist collaboratives (Zest Artist Collective-ZAC, since 2020 and The White Flag Art Project, since 2022) - the latter informed by her background in Human Rights studies.
