Dani Cavalier (1993, Rio de Janeiro) lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Through drawings, paintings,
installations, and sculptures, she explores themes of the body, spirituality, and the history of women’s
power and marginalization.
For the past three years, Cavalier has developed her artistic research around what she calls "solid
paintings." Instead of paint and brush, she constructs her works with colorful scraps of Lycra collected
from swimwear factories in Rio de Janeiro. These pieces juxtapose blocks of color and replace the
traditional canvas, wrapping around the stretcher to create interwoven compositions that exist without a
fixed inside or outside. Their large scale invites viewer participation.
Her research is rooted in textile techniques passed down by women in contexts historically excluded from
the so-called Fine Arts, blurring boundaries between art and craft.
She has participated in exhibitions such as Geometria Crepuscular (A Gentil Carioca, Rio de Janeiro,
2024), Bronze Noturno (Galeria Refresco, Rio de Janeiro, 2024), and Ecos da Intimidade (Vórtice
Cultural, São Paulo, 2024). In June 2025, she will hold her first solo exhibition at Galatea Gallery, São
Paulo.
