Laurent Guez
(Canadian & French )
First exercised his talent for building forward thinking
structures as boy when he constructed imaginative
lego cities. His desire to combine aesthetics and
engineering led him to earn a degree in industrial
design at the École Nationale des Arts Appliqués et
des Métiers d’Arts in Paris where he lived from 1975 to
2000.
Drawn to creating environments that were beautiful
and encapsulated a company’s brand, he formulated
displays that ranged from department store kiosks to
stand alone shops. As the co-head of the Tux Creative
Agency he acquired world-wide clients primarily in the
cosmetic and drugstore industries.
In 2022, he heeded his urge to express his creativity
without the restraints imposed by commerce and
became full time artist .
He chose a three dimensional medium, clay and its
more refined form-porcelain to use his experience as a
builder and problem solver to make large, complex
pieces that embody his philosophy of life and the
struggles that living entails, heightened by his unique
vision. He incorporated mold and castings as well as paper,
wood, metal in his work to achieve the organic shapes
he desires and to advance his ceramics beyond the
expected in his fine art work and ceramic tables.
Guez is an expansive dreamer as well as a pragmatic
rationalist. These opposing aspects are at play in his
current ceramic work:
