-Stathis Fotis is a contemporary visual artist and educator of Cypriot origin. He was born in
Tripoli, grew up in Nicosia and Athens. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts
(2012–2017), in the 3rd Painting Studio under Professor Marios Spiliopoulos, with assistant
professors Pantelis Chandris and Erato Chatzisavva, and graduated with distinction.
Fotis’s artistic practice revolves around portraiture, not as mere likeness, but as a visionary
process: historical and contemporary figures are reimagined through symbolic and surreal
transformations that reveal inner tensions, myths, and contradictions. His major series
Innate Visions (Έμφυτα Οράματα) presents emblematic personalities—from Maria Callas to
Leonardo da Vinci, from Charles Darwin to Elizabeth Taylor—transformed through surreal
elements reflecting their legacy, fragility, and universal resonance. In parallel, his ongoing
projects Blue Visions and Fragments of Myth expand his exploration into aquatic symbolism
and reinterpreted Greek mythology, creating bridges between personal memory and
collective archetypes.
He has presented his work in a solo exhibition in Athens (Gallery Genesis, 2020, curated by
Yiorgos Tzaneris) and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and
abroad, including Palazzo Marotti in Rome (2025), the War Museum
of Athens (2022), the Platforms Project (Athens School of Fine Arts, 2019 & 2021), and
Metaphor Athens (2022). In 2019 he received an award in the visual arts competition of the
Athens School of Fine Arts, ‘150 Years of the Greek Railways’, held at the Railway Museum
of Athens.
Alongside his artistic career, Fotis lives and works in Athens as a teacher of informatics in
secondary education. He graduated from the Athens University of Economics and Business
(Department of Applied Informatics) and holds a Master's degree in Supplementary
Specialization in Statistics.
Through his art, Fotis seeks to highlight the fragile but persistent dialogue between identity,
history, and imagination—transforming figures into visions that transcend time.
