I never set out to be an artist, or was very artistic as a child, I started out as a Painter and Decorator working for my father, I was a third-generation painter and decorator and was brought up with a paint brush in my hands from an early age.
After several different jobs which seem now to be different lives I ended up not been able to work due to health reasons, a friend who lived opposite kept asking me to go with her to an art course on a Friday morning which I made every excuse not to go, after a 6 month period I relented as my friend was going to drag me out of the house if I didn't meet her outside on the following Friday morning, so I went and never looked back since, I still go to the art class but now help out and pass on what i have learned over the years of painting.
I have been painting for over 17 years now and at first it was just a hobby which I gained a great deal of pleasure from, things changed for me in 2016 and I ended living on my own, upon which due to the meditation that was occurring whilst painting my painting became more than a hobby.
The style and genre of my work has changed and evolved over the years I started out painting cityscapes and buildings with architectural features, I was taught by painting landscapes which I tend not to do that many as my passion lies elsewhere so it has to mean something rather special for me to devote a canvas to painting a landscape, during covid lockdown I decided to try something different and put my brushes to the task of painting wildlife portraits which has developed over the years since then, I often like to push and challenge myself which brings me out of my comfort zone which has had surprising results and painting portraits and in sepia has added to my painting styles.
I have had the privilege to exhibit in London twice in 2018, 2020 and in April 2025, also since October 2024 I have been digitally exhibiting in Paris, Switzerland, Spain, Berlin, the Carribean and this month I exhibited in New York at the New York art expo.
Painting is my passion and obsession and my art has become a part of me regardless of the subject, I stretch my own canvasses firstly because it was cheaper, also I prime them with gesso primer again as this was a cheaper option, now I find I love the prosses of bringing to life a canvas to work on and it brings me even closer to my art.
