For me, art is communication – creating bridges between people and their emotions, a way of encouraging connection and discussion. I want my art to be approachable for everyone, never too complicated. My paintings are born from my own experiences: while quite universal in language, I see the world through the lense of a Scandinavian woman.
I am an art professional with an academic background in art history (MA) and management (PhD), but I have been passionate about painting my whole life. For over 20 years I worked as a museum director in Finland leading an art and cultural heritage museum. A few years ago I discovered a new abstract way of expressing myself, which set me on the path of a full time painting career. To me, art is an ongoing process of personal and human growth.
I am a colorist who loves light above all else and strives to tell stories with my paintings. I am enthusiastic about everyday objects and simple views. I love cities, cityscapes and aimless wandering in urban streets. If I find a theme interesting enough, I am inspired to explore the topic through a series. I want my art to brighten the day of the beholder, especially by the soft colors I use. I work in acrylic on canvas, often with a palette knife – a technique that creates a textured touch which I find exciting.
