I try to report women’s need to be free to be seductive and alluring. Yet
the awareness of the mystic power to give life they have and the mandatory
scars (belly buttons) depending on this.
I always start hand drawing with charcoal than I scan it to apply
digital effects and make additional drawings plus collage with fabrics, tiles, geometric
patterns, architectures and flowers, reminding and giving reference with iconic
feminine concept like seclusion, family fireside, fragility, desire, pain,
instinct. I became interested in the contradiction,
over the millennia, of woman as symbol of pureness and mistery of birth to
worship and meanwhile to be considered as an object of possession and obeyance.
I mix typical ancient renaissance paintings technique featuring pop vamp
seductive women to be let worshipped, their body built up of ancient marbles
cathedrals exploding in sexy breath. I pick a golden gothic ceiling of a
monastery in Milan or art deco kitchen tiles rendering patterns that she’s wearing
like pantyhose. She wears oversized heels and belly button necklaces.
As a caregiver she has Huge hands to selfdefense, to launch, grab. Crush
and keep. Her eyes are headlights to catch the viewer attention : hey I said
in the eyes.
Edmea is the name of my great-great- grandmother.
