Twin Cloud is a climate data-driven generative art project focused on sustainability. Using satellite data, it creates climate identities for 300 cities worldwide. By linking on-chain carbon credits with digital art, it also returns carbon to the ground, making each art piece a gateway to green initiatives.
Chemicals from mountain fires, car exhaust, and industrial production travel far in the air, reflecting human activities. The project gathers global meteorological data from the Copernicus Ecological Satellite to create digital sculptures representing 300 cities. The data includes greenhouse gases, aerosol pollutants, humidity, temperature, and location, which influence the digital clouds' shape, movement, color, and texture. As chemicals accumulate, a soft cloud can become chaotic and violent, symbolizing human impact.
The vast and invisible politics of air often obscure its personal relevance. Twin Cloud bridges the gap between planetary scale and personal perception through data.
Twin Cloud also collaborates with green businesses like Arkreen, which builds a decentralized renewable energy network of photovoltaic panel owners, generating carbon certificates from green electricity. The transaction of Twin Cloud digital artwork automatically collects carbon certificates on-chain, returning carbon to the ground. One Renewable Energy Certificate equals 1,000 kWh of green energy usage, offsetting 0.5 tons of carbon dioxide.
Carbon, as a transmatter, is energy, life substance, currency, and a key driver of global warming. By linking digital art to on-chain carbon certificates, Twin Cloud creates a poetic yet practical connection between the sky and the ground through the medium of carbon.
